He is the author of more than 100 articles and 80 books on popular culture, media, communication, semiotics, humor and tourism. He had a Fulbright fellowship and taught at the University of Milan in 1963. He has also lectured at many universities outside of the US, including in Iran, China, Argentina, France, Germany, Mexico, and Turkey.
