Carter (1845-1936) was born at Bridgton, Maine. During the Civil War, he served with 22nd Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War. After graduating from the United States Military Academy, he went to Texas with his bride, Mary, where he served in several Indian campaigns. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his action in the Brazos River campaign in October 1871 and authored several other books, including \u003ci\u003eThe Boy Soldier at Gettysburg\u003c\/i\u003e (1887) and \u003ci\u003eFour Brothers in Blue\u003c\/i\u003e (1913).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCharles M. Robinsoin III is a history instructor at South Texas Community College in McAllen.
