His bestselling novel, \u003ci\u003eThe Godfather\u003c\/i\u003e, was preceded by two critically acclaimed novels, \u003ci\u003eThe Dark Arena \u003c\/i\u003eand \u003ci\u003eThe Fortunate Pilgrim\u003c\/i\u003e. In 1978, he published \u003ci\u003eFools Die\u003c\/i\u003e, followed by \u003ci\u003eThe Sicilian\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eThe Fourth K\u003c\/i\u003e, and the second installment in his Mafia trilogy, \u003ci\u003eThe Last Don\u003c\/i\u003e.
