He lives with his wife on the land once farmed by his great, great grandfather, William Hudson, who died in 1851. Before the Civil War, Thomas P. Hazel, another great, great grandfather, was a merchant and postmaster in the community of Saint Augustine. Hazel's great grandfather, Jacob Truss, was a tugboat captain who talked about seeing Civil War battles in the distance as he piloted his boat on the Potomac River.
