He still lives in the Annadale section of Staten Island. He is married and has 2 sons and 1 daughter. He graduated from New Dorp High School in 1965. He then attended the Academy of Aeronautics, near LaGuardia Airport where he studied Aircraft Maintenance. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in the United States, Germany and Viet Nam. He was discharged in 1970 and became employed, as a technician, by the New York Telephone Company. During his years of service he attended colleges in the evening at the College of Staten Island where he received a B.A. in Psychology and a M.A. in Liberal Studies. He then attended Wagner College and in 1995 received a M.S. in Elementary Education. He retired from the telephone company in 1994 and became a teacher. He taught social studies and general science in schools in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
