by Thomas Dillon (Author)
An old man sits alone and reminisces about his first love and decides to put his thoughts and memories into poetry. The poems are about two young children who were very much in love. Everyone who knew them were aware of how much they cared for each other. They were always together. Their playmates thought that their feelings toward each other was great, however the childrens parents and other grown-ups considered their affair a childish passing fancy and very amusing. These feelings began to change when the puppy love continued from grade school through high school and beyond.Still together-- Still openly expressing their love for each other. There were many people that were surprised that the couple stayed together as long as they did but everyone was shocked when they learned that the couple had broken up. These poems recall the pain and grief suffered by the young man, now old, as he tries to find the appropriate words to express these feelings. There are a few other poems included in the text which were written by the old man to obtain relief from the memories of an old love story which again was causing him some pain.
