Clear, operations-focused, and half the size of traditional academic textbooks, this book is the easiest way for communications engineers and students to master the complexities of network behaviorThis unique guide to communication networks fundamentals takes a new approach. Rather than following the standard (and increasingly outmoded) OSI network model, it is organized around networking concepts. Rather than plunge readers into the alphabet soup of communications protocols and technologies, Kasera starts with a concept like "routing," and explains each technology in terms of how it helps to perform that function. The book is designed for communications engineers and technicians, as well as students.

A Clear, Operations -- Focused Guide to Communication Networks That Cuts through the Complexities of Network Behavior
Communications engineers and technicians can turn to Communication Networks: Principles and Practice for a clear, "concepts-first" introduction to the fundamentals of communication networks. Rather than follow the OSI network model, this concise guide takes readers step by step through each networking concept (e.g., routing), explaining how the technology of each performs that specific function.
Communication Networks: Principles and Practice begins by explaining building block concepts, such as network services, protocol layering, transfer modes, and network topology and extent. The book then covers core concepts, ranging from transmission and multiple access...to bridging, switching, addressing, signaling, and routing. Finally, this expert resource explores advanced concepts, including network traffic and security issues. Filled with detailed illustrations, Communication Networks: Principles and Practice features:
- The latest technologies used to define each network concept, rather than the reverse
- In-depth explanations of all building-block and core concepts
- State-of-the-art methods for network security management
INSIDE THIS QUICK-ACCESS, COMMUNICATIONS TOOL:
* Building Blocks of Communication Networks: Network Services * Protocol Layering * Transfer Modes * Network Topology and Extent * Core Concepts: Transmission and Multiple Access * Data Link Control * Bridging * Switching * Addressing * Signaling * Routing * Advanced Concepts: Traffic Management * Security Management
