JANETTE SEBRING LOWREY, author of
The Poky Little Puppy--the bestselling picture book of all time--wrote mostly teen fiction during the 1940s and 1950s.
KATHRYN JACKSON penned hundreds of lively, witty stories for Golden Books, including
Tawny Scrawny Lion and
Nurse Nancy. She wrote
The Saggy Baggy Elephant with her husband, Byron.
Caldecott Medalists ALICE AND MARTIN PROVENSEN began to illustrate books together in the mid-1940s, many of them for Golden Books, including
The Fuzzy Duckling and
The Color Kittens.
Before Swedish émigré artist GUSTAF TENGGREN created several of Golden Books' most popular characters, he worked for the Walt Disney Studio, painting concept artwork for
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Old Mill, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and
Bambi.
