Phantom soldiers, restless spirits, and mythical snakes in tales from the Garden State
Back Jacket
Reading line: Eerie tales and spine-tingling stories from the Garden State Things that go bump in the night, disembodied voices, footsteps in an empty stairwell, an icy hand on your shoulder...let your imagination run wild as you read about New Jersey's most extraordinary apparitions, sinister spooks, and bizarre beasts. You may know of the father-and-son ghosts of Aaron Burr, or Moll Degraw, the witch that haunts Newark, but perhaps you haven't heard about: -a murderer whose body parts were used for medical (and other) experiments; -the "White Pilgrim" who died of the disease he believed he could never get; -an Indian chief who used a swastika to protect a group of defenseless schoolgirls; and -the bottomless "Blue Hole," a pool of cold, clear water near the town of Winslow that defies all efforts to calculate its depths. Charles A. Stansfield, Jr. taught Geography at Rowan University for forty-one years and published fifteen geography textbooks. He is the author of several other Haunted Series books and lives in Pittman, New Jersey. Patricia A. Martinelli is the administrator of the Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society and author of eleven books, including New Jersey Ghost Towns, and coauthor with Charles A. Stansfield of The Big Book of New Jersey Ghost Stories. She lives in Minotola, New Jersey.
