by Arthur Haberman (Author)

1930 can be seen as the dawn of a period of darkness, the beginning of what Auden would call "a low, dishonest decade." Europe questioned itself and its viability. Major writers and artists sought to grapple with issues still central to our lives, including mass culture and its dangers and the rise of the politics of irrationality.
