Peter wishes to encourage Christian believers and so he gives his own personal testimony. This personal note sounds through all the letter. The Christians were experiencing a time of trial (1:6). They needed encouragement from on who knew what trial meant. Peter points away from the trials to the future glory which awaited them (1:7), to the example of Christ (2:21), and the reward which would follow (4:13).
