by Ciaran Bates (Author)
The world of drug and alcohol addiction is a dark and lonely place. Often we cannot find a way out and when we do decide to stop we don't know where to turn or what to do. Written from an addict's perspective Ciaran shares some of the important steps to prepare us for overcoming addiction and what we need to do to give us a better chance of winning the fight. This book explores answers to some very tough questions. So what is the first step towards recovery? What can we expect to encounter when giving up our addiction? What are the things that are likely to make you succeed in recovery? How do we start rebuilding? Will we ever have a normal life? Used in conjunction with a good recovery program the methods explored in this book are fundamental to your success or failure.
I was born in Dublin Ireland on 6 February 1972. My father was an alcoholic and despite all the lessons I should have learned, I followed the same path and battled various forms of addiction for 22 years of my life. My drug of choice was cocaine. I have been sober since 24 September 2006. I currently live in Durban, South Africa and I counsel addicts and facilitate an addiction support group. I find addicts misunderstood and parents of addicts vulnerable. Through my own experiences and the experiences of others I hope to reach out to those who find their world torn apart by addiction.
