If you're reading this book you'll get some tools and lessons I learned the hard way through life and business, and hopefully there will be a few gems in here that you can take and apply to your life or your business moving forward. My main goal of this book is to help you to get clear on what your vision, dream and ideal is, and to give you some actionable steps on how you can achieve that dream.

I chose "Against the Grain" as the title for this book, because:

A) Most of my career has been all about leather, and leather is classified by the type of grain it has, i.e. full-grain, top-grain, genuine, etc.
B) Most of my life has been, in a way, against the grain of societal norms. I haven't exactly gone the most straightforward, direct route in life that a lot of people would probably choose to go.
C) I want to challenge each of you to forget what the norm is and to have the courage to go against the grain in your own life. To pursue your unique vision and purpose, even if it is completely different than what you think may be expected of you.

It doesn't matter what type of job you are in or what type of goal you are working on. These principles can help improve your life in any situation you may be in. If you want to become the best janitor, or the best teacher, coach or CEO, or if your dream is to make an impact by helping others in a positive way, anyone can take these ideas and apply them to achieving their own unique dream or vision for how they want their life to look, and to reach their own definition of success.
