Author Biography

Stanley South is a research professor and archaeologist at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, a department within the University of South Carolina. Considered by many to be a pioneer of historical archaeology, South authored a number of books on the topic including the canonical Method and Theory in Historical Archaeology (1977). He began his career in 1956 at the N.C. Department of Archives and History and conducted the initial archaeological investigations at Town Creek Indian Mound as well as at Brunswick.
