Convinced that she must go on that voyage, she retired from her long-time career as public affairs director of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges to board the Ocean Explorer I. That four-and-a-half month odyssey took her to such exotic destinations as Antarctica and Easter Island, snorkeling in the Seychelles and the Maldives, and exploring Iguazu Falls in South America. The trip was the beginning of a passion for travel that has led her to other faraway places such as Mongolia, Siberia, and the South Pacific's Marquesas Islands.
