Bomba en el Cine Yara es la historia de un director del Centro Cultural Cinematográfico Yara, en La Habana, Cuba, a mediados de los años 90. Narra cómo se enfrentó a amenazas de explosión de bomba y la reacción de las fuerzas policiales de la capital cubana.
Se trata de una historia real, pero con todos los ingredientes de la literatura de suspenso: momentos de intriga, comedia y tragedia, todo en una mezcla donde se entrecruzan el arte, la política y la vida social habanera del llamado "Período Especial" de los años 90.

Bomb in the Yara Cinema is the story of a director at the Yara Cinematographic Cultural Center in Havana, Cuba, during the mid-1990s. It recounts how he confronted repeated bomb explosion threats and dealt with the response from the Cuban capital's police forces.
This is a true story, yet it contains all the elements of suspense literature: moments of intrigue, comedy, and tragedy blended together in a rich mix that intertwines art, politics, and the everyday social life of Havana during the so-called "Special Period" of the 1990s.

Author Biography

Gilberto Gutierrez, photographer and writer. Studied Political Science at Havana University, Cuba, 1988.and worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry( ICAIC), member of Union of Journalists of Cuba UPEC. Work as manager at the Yara Cinema's Cultural Center in the city of Havana from 1993 to 1994. Wrote the script for a short film about exodus of cubans from the island on rafts made into a film by director Enrique Pineda Barnet in 2006. He left Cuba on a raft on August 18, 1994 and was intercepted by US Coast Guard, four miles from Marathon Key, Florida, and sent back to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. After 14 months in refugee camps came to Miami where he lives. Over 14 years he worked as Cameraman at WLTV Network. Editor of the Blog ELBALSEROSUICIDA. Estudió Ciencias Políticas en la Universidad de La Habana, Cuba, 1988. y trabajó en el Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), miembro de la Unión de Periodistas de Cuba UPEC. Trabajó como gerente en el Centro Cultural Cine Yara en la Ciudad de La Habana, 1993-1994. Escribió el guión de un cortometraje sobre el éxodo de cubanos de la isla en balsas realizadas en una película del director Enrique Pineda Barnet en 2006. Se fue de Cuba en una balsa el 18 de agosto de 1994 y fue interceptado por la Guardia Costera de los EE. UU., a cuatro millas de Marathon Key, Florida, y enviado de vuelta a la Bahía de Guantánamo en Cuba. Después de 14 meses en campos de refugiados, llegó a Miami, donde vive. Durante 14 años trabajó como Camarógrafo en WLTV Network. Editor del Blog ELBALSEROSUICIDA. Otros escritos de este autor son MAESTROS Y MARGARITA, COMO ME FUI EN BALSA, HISTORIAS DE ELBALSEROSUICIDA y LA DIOSA BAJO EL TEJADO DE ZINC CALIENTE y algunos de sus trabajos han aparecido publicados en El Nuevo Herald y algunas revistas del sur de la Florida
