by Artists Of Hawai'i (Author)
Contempory Surrealism in Hawai'i documents the Hawai'i Surrealist Exhibit and Gala in October 2024. These two events were timed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Surrealist Manifesto by Andre Breton and his group in Paris, France and shows that Surrealism is alive and well in the Hawaiian Islands Many artist's from all over the state took advantage of of this opportunity to create works that go beyond reality into the realm of dreams. And then the night after the exhibit's opening reception a Surrealist Gala was enjoyed by artists and community members. They really went all out with their surreal attire for the Costume Contest. The evening included wonderful performances, live music food and drinks. It was a night to remember! With essays by Hawai'i artists Adare and Robin Worley and an introduction by Ken Charon this book will be of interest to many of those who experienced this exhibit and Gala and art history enthusiasts in Hawai'i and beyond
