Author Biography

Janet grew up in rural West Virginia, surrounded by many cousins and her aunts and uncles. She spent her days in the summertime picking blackberries with her mom and grandma. She played outside from morning until nightfall, chased lightning bugs, traipsed through the woods, and rode bikes on the dirt road that twisted a path through the hollow. Her Grandpa McMillion died before she was born, but her grandma lived to be 92. They were from the old days. Her grandpa could blow the fire out of a burn and stop bleeding by saying a verse in the Bible. Her grandma was very superstitious, practiced the old -timey ways, and cooked the old-fashioned way-adding a little of this and a little of that and not having written-down recipes. Janet loves talking to her older relatives and asking them about the old days. Her aunt often told people, "Don't tell her anything or she'll put it in a book." Her aunt was right. She loves incorporating the people, places and things from her past into her stories. She has put together two family cookbooks and published a middle grade manuscript. She also writes a monthly children's column for a regional magazine titled, Two-Lane Livin.' Janet and her family still live in West Virginia. You can visit her blog, Writing in the Blackberry Patch, where she posts about crafts, recipes, vintage collections and more.
