The term steroid applies to a wide range of molecules with varying physiological effects. Steroids, sometimes referred to as corticosteroids, are substances that are naturally produced in our body. Corticosteroids (CS) are an important class of naturally occurring and synthetic steroid hormones that affect virtually every aspect of human physiology. They are a common part of our prescriptions, sometimes in physiological doses and sometimes for pharmacological therapy. Corticosteroids are a class of chemicals that includes steroid hormones naturally produced in the adrenal cortex of vertebrates and analogs of these hormones that are synthesized in laboratories.
