Author Biography
For over three decades, Concha Delgado Gaitan has been a strong force in the field of Education as an elementary school teacher, elementary school principal, applied anthropologist, researcher, and University of California Professor of Sociocultural Studies in Education. She is an award-winning professor and researcher in Anthropology and Education at the University of California Santa Barbara and Davis. Her work with families, communities, and schools appears in many scholarly publications. Gaitan′s many published works include: Creating Culturally Responsive Classrooms; Involving Latino Families in the Schools; The Power of Community; Literacy for Empowerment; Protean Literacy; Crossing Cultural Borders, and School and Society. Gaitan has also worked in the field of public health education in Latino communities, combining that interest with her dedication to issues of social justice in education.
