Author Biography
Brittany "Brie" Haupt, is an Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness Department. Her previous educational and practitioner achievements developed her passion for cultural competency and engaging in strategic planning efforts to enhance intercultural dialogue and community development. Her research interests include cultural competency, emergency management communication, community resilience, and competency-based education. She has published in Public Administration Review, Journal of Public Affairs Education, Disaster Prevention and Management, Risk, Hazards, and Crisis in Public Policy, Journal of Emergency Management, and Frontiers in Communication section on Disaster Communications. Her professional efforts were acknowledged via selection as the American Society for Public Administration's Founders Fellow in 2017, selection as an International Scholar Workshop participant in Chennai, India, and Early Career Editorial Board Member for Natural Hazards Review.
Lauren Azevedo, is an Assistant Professor at Penn State Harrisburg in the School of Public Affairs. Her past experience working as a grant writer with public and nonprofit organizations on program evaluation and capacity building and consulting with several of these agencies has helped shape her research agenda on nonprofit leadership. More specifically, she has brought in over 2 million grant dollars working with organizations like the Florida Department of Children and Families, Planned Parenthood, and the TA Network for Children's Behavioral Health. Her research focuses on capacity building, leadership and governance, and social equity. She has published in Public Integrity, Journal of Public Affairs Education, Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, and Journal of Lationos and Education. She has also presented at several national conferences including the American Evaluation Association (AEA), American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), and the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA).
