Dead Man Driving - Paperback

by Gregory Campbell (Author)

Dead Man Driving is the haunting, soulful journey of a 79-year-old Vietnam veteran grappling with the invisible wounds of war - PTSD, survivor's guilt, and the ghosts of comrades long gone. Set largely on the open road, the story unfolds as a series of reflections, encounters, and internal battles behind the wheel of his aging truck. Each mile driven is a meditation on memory, regret, loss, and the stubborn will to survive.

Haunted but unbroken, the protagonist uses long-distance drives as both escape and therapy, speaking into a camera to document his struggles and hopes for a world that rarely sees veterans like him - the ones who came home but never truly made it back. With grit, dark humor, and unexpected grace, Dead Man Driving explores the cost of silence, the redemptive power of storytelling, and what it means to live when a part of you never left the war.
