Decolonize Dallas 2017 was a series of events and exhibitions that activated historical memory through culture in four contested sites throughout the city of Dallas-Pleasant Grove, Vickery Meadow, Southern Dallas, and West Dallas. Decolonize Dallas focused on cultural producers and communities on the margins to reshape dominant narratives of identity and history in Dallas. Featured artists included: American Indian Heritage Day, Ash Studios, Tamitha Curiel, Dark Moon Poetry and Arts, Dom G Jones, Angela Faz, Mylan Nguyen, Brent Ozaeta, Trans.lation Vickery Meadow, Christian Vasquez, Taro Waggoner, Montoya Williams. Organized by Michelada Thank Tank. Supported by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Embrey Family Foundation, George and Fay Young Foundation, 29 Pieces, Ignite Arts Dallas, KERA Art&Seek, and Nasher Sculpture Center.

Author Biography

Michelada Think Tank is a multi-state group of socially conscious artists, educators, and activists of color hosting conversations with other people of color (PoC) and allies who are interested in creative ways of making change happen. MTT is interested in facilitating conversations and creating community around issues faced by people of color while promoting action beyond the discussion. MTT is now in Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn.
