by Joe Yurgine (Author)

Welcome to the dark underbelly of 1968 New York City-the pivotal, devastating year of the sixties filled with Russian spies, anti-Vietnam war demonstrations, Black Panthers, and New Left groups throbbing for guerrilla warfare and violence. The author, a former New York City-based FBI agent who handled Russian espionage cases, weaves together history and fiction to create a riveting, pure chronicle of life inside the FBI and how Harlem was saved from burning.

Deuce, an agent with the FBI, is assigned to cover a Soviet spy by the name of Yuri Popov, who wishes to defect for money-and lots of it. In the midst of trying to ascertain whether Popov is the real deal, Deuce uncovers a web of lies so prodigious that he might just get caught in it himself.

With a remarkable sense of detail and authenticity, the author paints a vivid portrait of a city whose very charm lies in its polarizing nature. Its smells, sights, dive bars, and fast pace of living are all brought to life through colorful characters who are a testament to the old-school detective work that made New York City tick.
