    About the Authors

Author Biography

Marion was introduced to numbers and simple arithmetic by playing on an abacus. This led to a life time of loving and teaching mathematics.
One of her main goals while teaching mathematics is to ensure, not only that everyone is successful, but also that they enjoy doing mathematics. She likes to show connections between mathematics and the visual arts, often using concrete materials to explain concepts and encouraging students to pose their own problems.
She has given many talks and workshops in various countries, is the author of numerous articles. Her published books include "Boxes Squares and Other Things" and "The Art of Problem Posing", which was co-authored with Stephen I Brown. Her book "The Mirror Puzzle Book" received honorable mention from the New York Academy of Science Children's Book Award Program.
Marion has a master's degree in mathematics from New York University and a doctorate in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She taught mathematics to prospective elementary and secondary teachers. She taught at various institutions, including the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Simmons College and the last being the University of Oregon. She is the founder of the Boston Area Math Specialists (http: //www.bostonareamathspecialists.org/).

Tammy teaches math at the University of Oregon. In her spare time she helps parents learn to play math with their kids.
