In 1917 Eva, a new mother, courageously leaves her family in Finland to accompany her husband, who seeks land on which to farm in Northern Minnesota. With Finnish determination, or sisu, they overcome many hardships, but when a fire brings tragedy to them, they learn that God is the true strength in their fragile lives.

Linda Hatinen is a retired special education teacher who lives in northern Minnesota with her husband and resuce dog, Rosie. She has three grown children. She receives great joy through her faith, family, Scandinavian roots and nature.
