The glamour couple of French design, Garouste and Bonetti are (along with Starck) practically the only designers in France to have been recognized internationally. Highly polemical, particularly with regard to the modern conception of furniture, their work is less concerned with decoration than is often assumed, and focuses primarily on elaborating standards of taste. The 'enfants terribles' of both English eccentricity and French conceptualization, this beacon-duo have produced in 15 years a diversified body of work, extending from individual works commissioned by affluent collectors to more mass-market commissions for such companies as Nina Ricci.
