Author Biography

Advisor for the Hereditary Society Community of the United States of America, Charles Owen Johnson is a distinguished attorney with an extensive background in genealogy and heredity studies. He has had a successful legal career in both Louisiana and Washington D.C., and he is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. During a twenty-four-year period, he worked in the Tax Court Litigation Division of the Chief Counsels Office, Internal Revenue Service, and as chief of the Court of Appeals Branch for the Fifth Circuit. In addition to working as a lawyer, Johnson also served as the first editor of Hereditary Register of the United States of America. He is a member of dozens of organizations including the English-Speaking Union of the United States; the Harvard Club of Washington, D.C.; the National Gavel Society; the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution; and the National Society Descendants of Early Quakers. The founding member of such organizations as the National Society Sons of Colonial New England, Johnson is the recipient of the Jefferson Davis Medal Certificate, Cross of Military Service, and the Certificate of Arkansas Antebellum Ancestry, among others. He is also listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in America, and others. Johnson graduated from Tulane University with a B.A., received a LL.B. from Harvard Law School, a J.D. from Tulane Law School, and a LL.M. from Columbia Law School. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Johnson divides his time between Arlington, Virginia, and Palm Beach, Florida.
