Both artists left Nazi Germany in the 1930s and explored innovations in ornamental and textile forms. Their work revived textile art in Switzerland with new ways of inventing forms and ornamentation and helped establish a network of modern Swiss textile art.

Author Biography

Helen Hirsch is director and head curator at the Kunstmuseum Thun in Switzerland. Christoph Wagner is a lecturer and head of the Art History Department at the University of Regensburg in Germany.
