The gravediggers are dogs because dogs love to bury bones. The players of the play within the play are mice because the play they act in is titled "The Mousetrap." The sentries are rats because, well, rats look handsome in helmets. You'll see that "Hamlet: Prince of Pigs" with words by Shakespeare and subtractions by Boxer, is stripped of all fat. And a pared-down Hamlet with animal actors is a funny Hamlet!
