Author Biography

I was in my early twenties when I discovered my chances of having a safe and successful pregnancy were slim. After several years of contemplation, I made the decision to explore adoption. It was during this process that I learned about foster care. For me, the decision was an easy one. The number of children in foster care who needed safe and loving homes far outweighed the number of free and legal adoptable children. So, foster care it was! Little did I know what I was getting myself into! With the support of family and friends, I applied to become a licensed foster parent. I was truly excited to experience parenting of all ages, races, backgrounds and cultures. I was open to the unknown and I can say with fondness that fostering gave me some of the best memories; memories that I cherish and will carry with me through my lifetime. Above all of the self-discovery, highs and lows and unforgettable moments, I learned the greatest lesson of all. I learned what my mother meant when she said, "just wait until you have a teenager of your own." Little did I know, no truer or wiser words have ever been spoken. Let the journey begin!
