Raised and educated alongside the master's sons, Bill Miller's sharp intellect wins him a scholarship to Oxford-and the bitter envy of his former best friend, Bert. When Bill's father dies, Bert forces Bill into the role of butler just to humiliate him. But Bert's festering malice takes a darker turn when he frames Bill for assault, getting him sentenced to penal transportation.
Left behind without her protector, housekeeper's daughter Molly Ross becomes Bert's next target. When she fights back with a frying pan, she too is convicted and shipped across the world to Sydney.
Reunited in the fledgling colony of New South Wales, freed on arrival, Bill and Molly are given a second chance. But building a new life and running an inn on the Australian frontier brings its own perils. As shadows from their past follow them, will Bill be able to defend Molly one last time?
How do this young couple end up running the best inn in Parramatta with an endorsement from the governor?
