by Ronald Edwin Lane (Author)

In Silent Lucidity is a collection of twenty-six short stories, seventeen of which were published in literary journals, and two that were contest award winners. It's not a long book, only around 67,000 words, and the stories range from odd or dark science fiction and fantasy, to snippets of historical fiction with a dark side. For instance, the story Ebb Cade is about a black man who was injected with plutonium without his knowledge by the DOE (a true story). Another story brings to life the ancient Pomo Indian practice of Bear Doctors--men who donned bear suits to kill with. Yet another story documents the brutal shootings of the guards (one being my great uncle) during the Battle of Alcatraz. The story of Dog Robin is an odd parable of sorts. Some of the stories may even offend you. I hope so.
