There are few early Jackson County records due to the August 1872 courthouse fire so these abstracts are important to the genealogist and historian looking for official information prior to that time. This work is an abstraction of records on microfilm at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. No pertinent information was omitted, only redundant legalese which is indicated by an ellipsis. In many cases, the entire record is given. Front material has been updated as of 2012 but the transcriptions are just as found in the original volume published in 1999. Original page numbers are the first item listed at each abstract with subsequent page numbers given in parentheses throughout the abstract. Spelling and grammatical errors were retained. Comments are footnoted with names and places fully indexed and set in boldface by this transcriber.
