This guidebook provides materials for the identification of large carpenter bees of the genus Xylocopa Latreille, subgenus Neoxylocopa Michener, from the southwestern United States, mainland M xico, and the countries of mainland Central America south to and including Panam . Keys and diagnoses for the identification of females and males of the ten species of these bees recorded from North and Central America are provided in both English and Spanish. All species are illustrated in color.

Author Biography

Jonathan Mawdsley is the Science Advisor at the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, the national organization representing state and federal wildlife and conservation agencies in Washington, D. C. He has previously served as a Program Director at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment, and the Society for Conservation Biology. He holds a B. A. in Biology from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Entomology from Cornell University.
