Les Chimères: translated and annotated by Chris Sawyer - Paperback

by Chris Sawyer (Translator), Gérard de Nerval (Author)

New English translations of Gérard de Nerval's Les Chimères (1854), presented with an extensive apparatus of notes that does not seek clarification or resolution.

The translations preserve ambiguity without restoring lyric intensity or stabilizing reference. The notes accumulate without converging on interpretation. No introduction is provided. The original French does not appear.

This edition records the failure of commentary to decide what kind of object is being handled. It does not conclude. It stops.
