Socrates Asks Us: 'Where Have You Come From - And Where Are You Going?'

The Greek philosopher Socrates once asked his student Phaedrus: 'Where have you come from and where are you going?' - and although this sounds like just a greeting between two friends; these two simple questions are really at the heart of most 'real' Greek philosophy. We all want to know how it is we got here (where did the universe come from and what is our place in it); and we all want to choose the best, most fulfilling and happiest life for ourselves in the years ahead.

Whether we like it or not, at certain times in our lives we all have important and sometimes difficult Life Choices to make; and these choices are often 'philosophical' in nature.

What goals should you have for your life, and what are the most important criteria for you personally when making your own unique Life Choices? These sorts of questions are explored in this book, and to help answer them, we will look at some important ideas and advice from Socrates, Plato and Aristotle who all suggest that making good life choices and living wisely will lead to the happiest kind of life.

This book will also appeal to readers already interested in Greek philosophy generally who wants to get a better understanding of the why the names of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle are still so well known today - some 2,400 years after these great philosophers lived.

Several of Plato's books are discussed in some detail including: The First Alcibiades, The Phaedrus and The Phaedo; and some important regular themes in Plato are also looked at. Aristotle's 'practical philosophy' about how to improve our lives and the cities we live in is also explored. By the end of this book you will have a good idea of who Socrates, Plato and Aristotle really were, and what Greek philosophy is really all about in the Socratic sense of the word. It is less about discussing vague or abstruse ideas, and about living more wisely and happily.
