On a weekend getaway to the new summer home Joie and Freddie have built in the mountains north of San Francisco, their disabled son, Erik, is lured into the river by a mysterious Rat Wife and drowns. Freddie's sister, Andi, arrives with news of a shocking family secret, and Andi's hopeful suitor, Bernie, is as surprised as anybody when everything turns upside down - including San Francisco itself. Freely adapted from Ibsen's Little Eyolf, this new play grapples with marriage, family, class, nature, technology, and how our expectations can derail our deepest hopes and wishes.
Author Biography
Mark Jackson is a playwright, director and performer. He was the founding artistic director of Art Street Theatre, San Francisco, from 1995 to 2004, during which time he wrote, directed and performed in numerous productions for the company. Mark's range of work in theatre, dance and performance has been seen in the San Francisco Bay Area at Aurora Theatre Company, Cutting Ball Theatre, Encore Theatre Company, EXIT Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, Potrzebie Dance Project, San Francisco International Arts Festival, The Shotgun Players and Z Space. Nationally at The Catamounts (Denver), Hunger & Thirst (NYC) and The Studio Theatre (Washington D.C.). Internationally at Arts International Festival IV (Japan), Edinburgh Festival Fringe (UK), Bread & Roses Theatre (UK), and Deutsches Theater Berlin (Germany). His plays have been developed at American Conservatory Theater, Capital Stage, Cutting Ball Theatre, EXIT Theatre, Magic Theatre, Playwrights Foundation and Z Space.
