At times, we all feel desperate, having a great need that threatens to overwhelm us. Unsurprisingly, it is that very need that often drives us to God as we seek His help and intervention. While the Lord responds to our needs with mercy, He rarely works in ways we understand or imagine. However, in the arid circumstances of desperation, we can be certain that God is always working, always redeeming, and always taking us deeper into His love than we ever asked to go. Scripture is filled with stories of desperate people who take their great need to the Lord only to experience something different than expected. Jairus, Moses, Job, Josiah, Habakkuk, the woman caught in adultery, and the hemorrhaging woman are people with great needs, like us. Their stories will encourage and challenge us to trust the Savior completely, even when we don't understand His ways and even if, for a season, we live on the edge of desperate.
