When Friedrich Bauer and his mentor are ambushed in a cave by a monstrous beast, his mentor is killed, and Friedrich falls deep below the surface. Half-dead, he is rescued by Vytilia Quintia, a mysterious woman. Vytilia explains to Friedrich that her people, the Strixans, have been trapped underground, fighting a war of survival for thousands of years. The Strixans ask Friedrich for his help, commissioning him to take Vytilia to the surface in an attempt to ally their peoples together.
