by David Burke Phd (Introduction by), M. Phil [Cantab] Roderick a. Read (Author)

This book is a zany romp through the psychedelic sixties and seventies written by an actual "Psychedelic Grandpa", who was there back then. It may be worth a look for those who today experiment with substances and strange experiences, or for parents, other old trippers, or the curious. He remembers the madness of tripping out of it on LSD, many times, in the UK and USA and tries to make sense of the weird and wonderful events ensuing as humorous reflections on the brain contents so revealed. All the while he is considering maybe he was "round the bend" and tipped into psychosis or some superreal reality; "what is real?" or "what to believe?" are recurrent phrases and themes, today they are memes, questions we all ask. Does it eventually matter? It is a mad world under destruction we are living in anyway. Maybe when the reducing safety valve of banal everyday consciousness is removed all minds are capable of visiting cosmic dimensions previously only accessible to odd far-seeing visionaries and shamanic interpreters of other dimensions. Perhaps new recognition of the capabilities of the mind as revealed by super psychedelics reveals a new way ahead, into a spirit dimension. Here are the chapter headings, so see for yourself, do you want to enter in?........... Table of Contents Introduction LSD Blew 0pen Grandad's Windows, in the beginning. Elevated, visionary, even a mystical entheogenic consciousness for some, possibly sacramental, far-seeing but ineffable, it is difficult to reproduce in linear language and comprehend when back in 'normality'. Try it for yourself, the door is open, enter in by purchasing, the only way.... See how "LSD Blew Out Grandad's Windows" and he tries to integrate the experiences.

Author Biography

Rod started out as a British, indeed English, traditional farmer's son in the flat fenlands of East Anglia. Along came the social disturbances of the sixties arousing him to discontent and dissatisfaction. He dropped out; however he carried on reading and growing, so he dropped in again but to academia, a more welcoming and congenial zone. Being told his examination results were really "very good", unlike his grammar school headmaster who said "This boy cannot hope to get more than 3 'O' levels" he got into Uni, got a scholarship to the USA and then into the University of Cambridge as a research student in Criminology. All while taking liberal quantities of Acid (LSD) and dope (hashish) This all doubtless affected his brain and perceptions. His qualifications thus roam today in his older age over three different academic disciplines and a practical area; criminology, sociology/psychological counselling and English, plus his personal experience of LSD and psychedelic drugs. Using his expertise in these three different areas has resulted in a no less deep but more variegated inquiry into the meaning of psychedelic experience and the difficulties of integrating it into normal day to day consciousness. Being enriched by his considerable personal knowledge of the psychedelic experience in person, as an LSD tripper, a psychonaut, has left unresolved questions he now being retired and feeling the possibility of degeneration creeping up on him he is now belatedly grappling with as a psychedelic grandad. There have to be many others, not all have taken the final trip! The personal and even chatty style Rod has chosen masks with a light and humorous touch his more serious intent, as indicated in the subtitle, to try to integrate into everyday consciousness and ordinary social reality the very considerable oddities and out-of-this-world nature of LSD and the psychedelic changes of consciousness it triggers, for nothing is contained within it. He adds his perhaps confused and puzzled voice to a long and distinguished line of dead and living scientists, visionaries like William Blake, psychiatrists like R.D. Laing and philosophers such as Aldous Huxley who insisted on our paying more attention to perception and consciousness and the consequences these have for influencing decisions. Failure to do so arguably renders our society and our lives too narrow and verging on the increasingly meaningless; faultlines possibly dangerous for the survival of us on our planet.
