Millie is a little girl who is very smart. She loves words but words baffle her. Some words sound the same but have different meanings. Millie goes on a trip with Dad and Mom. They travel on Route 66 from Chicago, Illinois, stopping at some of the tourist attractions. After a week, they are at the end of Route 66 on the Santa Monica Pier in California. During the trip, Millie comes across words that baffle her. The book uses Millie's trip to describe these words and their different meanings.
