Depending how you count, about 3-5% of children in the USA live with their grandparents or other relatives. Some of them live there because their parents have drug problems. Most of them arrive at grandma and grandpa's home when they are very young. This book is for them. The book is kid-focused, and has a happy ending.

Author Biography

Elise Bowditch has always been interested in how we grow up and make sense of our world. She's a mom, a grandmother and now, a great-grandmother. This book is based partly on her own experience of kinship care and on other grandparents' stories. She raised her great-grandson for a while after his mother was no longer able to care for him due to her drug abuse. In the process, she talked with other grandparents and found a need for book like this. Her work background is in software development, but she returned to grad school and earned a Ph.D. with a focus in youth and children's geography. She lives and works in Philadelphia, after spending two decades in the Pacific Northwest.
