This is the account of the lives of two young people who were separated for much of WWII - he was in the Air Force and spent his whole service period in the UK while she worked in her local Tax Office. The book is based on the very frequent letters that passed between them, and which explained the details of their daily lives. During this period their relationship grew from one of friendship to something much stronger that ultimately led to them marrying.A great strength of the book is that it provides a an account of how the lives of many ordinary people was affected by the war.
