When Mary was twelve, her mother's father passed. In those days, the viewing was at home in the parlor. Looking at her grandfather, she knew on some level of consciousness it was not him-just a shell. What moved the shell was gone. She kept telling herself, This is not him, not understanding why everyone was crying. Feeling guilty, she began to cry too. Yet she knew he had just moved to another place, Heaven.
