Pankration: The Ancient Greek Martial Art That Inspired Modern MMA

Step into the brutal and fascinating world of Pankration, the legendary no-holds-barred combat sport of ancient Greece - where warriors fought with a unique blend of striking and grappling techniques that would inspire modern martial arts for centuries to come.

Pankration: In Ancient Greece is a richly detailed exploration of one of the earliest and most complete fighting systems in human history. Combining the striking skills of boxing (pygmachia) with the grappling prowess of wrestling (pale), Pankration was practiced by athletes, soldiers, and heroes alike - and featured prominently in the ancient Olympic Games.
