by Richard Brinsley Sheridan (Author), August Von Kotzubhe (Author)

"Chill'd by rude gales, while yet reluctant May

Withholds the beauties of the vernal day;

As some fond maid, whom matron frowns reprove,

Suspends the smile her heart devotes to love;"

-Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Pizarro, a Tragedy in Five Acts (1799)

Pizarro, a Tragedy in Five Acts (1799) was adapted by Richard Brinsley Sheridan from the German tragedy Die Spanier in Peru by August von Kotzebue. Sheridan's adaptation was for the English stage as performed at the London Theatre Royal of Drury-Lane. The play focuses on Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro's invasion of Peru and the corruption, hardships, and intrigue surrounding his quest. Considered a culturally important work, this edition is being published as a replica of the original 1799 edition and is a must-read for lovers of history and theatre.
