Planar Slow-Wave Structures: Applications in Traveling-Wave Tubes - Paperback

by Chen Zhao (Author), Sheel Aditya (Author)

This book comprehensively covers planar SWSs, including their methods of analysis, simulation, and fabrication. Many examples of materials and configurations compatible with printed-circuit fabrication or microfabrication are incorporated. The recognition and demonstration of the potential of planar SWSs for application in TWTs is presented through detailed examples and case studies. The planar SWSs have a high potential to significantly reduce manufacturing costs and enhance the performance of TWTs, facilitating their adoption in emerging systems such as 5G/6G communication systems, low-earth orbit satellite constellations, automotive radars, and security scanners.

Key Features:

• Provides a comprehensive description of planar slow-wave structures (SWSs) including their evolution, methods of analysis, and simulation of travelling-wave tubes (TWTs) using these structures. There is no other book dedicated to such information.
• Includes detailed field-theoretic analysis of microstrip meander-line and planar helix SWSs, providing guidance to design such SWSs for targeted performance.
• Provides a comprehensive presentation of the performance of TWTs which are based on planar SWSs and operate at various millimeter-wave frequency bands.
• Describes steps for fabrication of planar SWSs using printed-circuit and microfabrication techniques.
• Includes examples of materials and configurations which are compatible with printed-circuit fabrication or microfabrication of planar SWSs for application in TWTs.
• Good reference for graduate students and researchers in the areas of slow-wave structures and travelling-wave tubes.
