by Mary Zettelman Greer (Author)

This volume presents poems selected from two older collections (1968-2012 and 2012-2016); the third collection (2017) is complete. Greer uses the simple, humble language and images of home and nature throughout, revealing the development of both the poet's craft and her personal growth over nearly 40 years of faithful writing. The poems follow the journey of the single mother, the teacher, the environmental activist, the seeker, and the writer. As the poet Maj Ragain said of this volume, "These poems are the good bread of a deeply considered life, a witness for the Earth, and for what we share...a reminder of what sustains us and of where devotion might lead."

Author Biography

Mary Zettelman Greer was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1941. She has lived in and loved Ohio since 1963. The poems in this collection represent a retrospective selection of her work since 1968, showing the growth of her craft and an evolution from single mother to wise elder. Her underlying themes, expressed in humble and simple images, suggest a life-long search for meaning and all that can sustain the human spirit. Her previous two collections, "Cry in the Ears of Jerusalem' and "To the Horizon Always There" reflect her work as an environment activist and her concern for water, air, soil, and the human heart.
