by Dorothy Roberts Cline (Author)

Long, long ago there were no beautifully colored birds like we see today. Raven and his friend Jay are tired of the dull gray color of their feathers. Raven has an idea to change this and leads Jay on an adventure, but his plan turns out to be full of surprises--even for him. Author Dotty Cline based this delightful tale on an Athabascan myth. She cut the brightly colored illustrations from finger paintings created by her grandchildren.

Author Biography

Dorothy Roberts Cline has loved stories and songs from early childhood. She grew up in Oregon, and after college her fascination with other cultures led her to teach in the West Indies before moving to Alaska where she has lived and taught for more than 40 years. She lived in Athabascan Indian and Inupiat Eskimo villages in Alaska's interior before moving to Homer where she taught music and was an elementary librarian. Mrs. Cline enjoys sharing the stories and songs of her own and other cultures. She and her husband Mike have traveled widely. In addition to her music and writing she enjoys quilting and sewing. She loves visiting the families of her two adult children and spending time with her five grandchildren.
